Kitchen Remodeling in Thurston County: A Homeowner's Guide
Thurston County kitchens take a beating. Between rainy-day cooking, mudroom traffic from the Capitol Forest trails, and decades-old layouts in Olympia's historic neighborhoods, most homeowners reach a point where their kitchen simply doesn't work for how they live. A thoughtful remodel fixes that — and in this market, it's one of the highest-return investments you can make.
What Thurston County homeowners ask for most
- Open layouts that connect kitchen, dining, and living areas for entertaining.
- Durable, moisture-tolerant finishes — quartz counters, luxury vinyl plank, semi-custom cabinets with soft-close hardware.
- Better lighting for our long gray winters: layered recessed, pendant, and under-cabinet LEDs.
- Smart storage — pull-outs, deep drawers, and pantry towers that replace awkward 1980s cabinetry.

Plan the kitchen exhaust system with the remodel
A kitchen remodel is also a good time to review how the range hood vents, how filters can be removed for maintenance, and whether the fan and accessible duct path can be serviced without disturbing new finishes. Planning those details before cabinets and wall coverings are finalized can make routine care simpler.
Cornerstone also provides residential kitchen hood cleaning. Read the Olympia hood-cleaning guide to understand the cleaning scope and warning signs, or request a project consultation.
